From Freelance Designers Group to DataScript

DataScript did not start from scratch. It carries forward a legacy of innovation, quality and experience built by its predecessors, Freelance Designers Group and Inner Join, and brings it into a new chapter with its own identity and a forward-looking vision.

Freelance Designers Group: the starting point

Freelance Designers Group represents an early stage closely connected to design and the creation of digital experiences. It was also an early pioneer in building its day-to-day operation around freelance professionals and distributed teams, at a time when remote work was rarely considered beyond occasional support for work that exceeded a company's capacity. That model required learning how to coordinate, communicate and build trust long before working at a distance became normal. One essential idea remains from that period: software cannot be separated from the people who create and use it. A solution may be technically correct and still fail if it is hard to understand, makes work more difficult or does not address a real need.

Inner Join: closer to the core of the business

Inner Join continued that tradition of flexible, distributed work while raising the quality and engineering maturity of its projects. The focus expanded towards business applications, data, systems integration, simulators and training platforms. Many challenges that required innovative answers at the time are now part of everyday development: connecting services, structuring information, automating processes and creating applications that can evolve. This stage reinforced a lesson that still applies: the chosen technology matters, but understanding the business rules and deciding where each responsibility belongs matters more.

DataScript: accumulated experience, a clearer identity

DataScript inherits that journey and intends to continue its culture of innovation, quality and collaboration through a clearer proposition and identity. It uses the accumulated knowledge to approach current projects with sound judgement, a long-term perspective and the ability to address new technological challenges, including artificial intelligence when it delivers genuine value. The aim remains to build custom software, business applications, integrations, and simulation or training solutions that are understandable, maintainable and useful. This means reusing what makes sense, avoiding unnecessary complexity and applying every technology —including AI— to the problem that needs to be solved, rather than simply following a trend.

What remains

Across different brands, technologies and types of project, several principles have remained unchanged:

  • understand the context before proposing a solution;
  • treat design and development as parts of the same experience;
  • adapt the technology to the project rather than the project to a trend;
  • create systems that other people can maintain and extend;
  • explain decisions, limitations and risks clearly.

Why open this blog

This blog was created to turn accumulated experience into useful content. It will cover custom software development, architecture, application modernisation, integrations, simulation and digital training. It will also share lessons from real projects and decisions that are rarely visible in a portfolio entry. This is not a race to publish for the sake of publishing. The intention is to build a considered body of content, review it and release it gradually. Some posts will be aimed at business decision-makers; others will explore technical matters in greater depth; all will try to address specific problems.

Looking back to build what comes next

Freelance Designers Group, Inner Join and DataScript are not separate stories. They are stages in the same professional evolution. Looking back helps identify what is worth preserving, learn from change and explain more clearly the value that can be offered today. This article is the starting point. What follows will combine experience, analysis and practical cases around a simple idea: technology becomes valuable when it helps people understand, decide and work better.
