Development in 2005 of a training tool designed to support face-to-face lessons delivered to students in a CETM classroom. The solution combined theoretical content with an interactive transport fleet management simulator.
The theoretical section covered topics including vehicle weights and dimensions, documentation, insurance, international transport and fleet planning.
The simulator allowed students to select vehicles, manage drivers and haulage jobs, consult the road map and monitor the financial progress of the operation. Each exercise displayed indicators covering the fleet, journeys, fuel consumption, expenses, income and results achieved.
A particularly important feature was the integration of the then newly introduced digital tachograph. Its restrictions and requirements were an effective part of the simulation: students had to comply strictly with driving times, breaks and rest periods when making decisions. The tool was developed in anticipation of the digital tachograph becoming compulsory in heavy vehicles from 2006.
The project was delivered directly for CETM, with full development and programming.
